CBH supply chain delivers strong May performance

20/6/2023

The CBH supply chain has again delivered strong monthly performance, as the co-operative continues to work towards achieving our target of exporting two million tonnes per month by 2024, the first horizon of our Path to 2033 Strategy

Shipping performance

As of 31 May 2023, we have exported 13.95 million tonnes, over one million tonnes more than initially scheduled in our export plan and almost 30 per cent more than at the same time last year.

We set a record for May by shipping 1.87 million tonnes across all four ports, surpassing the volume exported in 2017. The Albany and Kwinana terminals both set new records for May shipping, with Kwinana having achieved records in 7 of the last 8 months.

For the period 1 October 2022 to 31 May 2023 (inclusive):

  • 2.74 million tonnes were shipped from the Albany zone
  • 2.54 million tonnes were shipped from the Esperance zone
  • 2.56 million tonnes were shipped from the Geraldton zone
  • 6.11 million tonnes were shipped from the Kwinana zone.

Rail and road performance

Reflecting the significant volume of grain shipped for the month, record tonnages of grain were also moved by rail and road in May.

For the second time in three months, over one million tonnes have been moved on rail, with May producing an all-time monthly record of 1.06 million tonnes delivered to our ports and Metro Grain Centre (MGC).

Our road transport contractors have also continued to transfer record volumes, setting new monthly highs for total tonnes moved to our ports and MGC across the network, as well as in the Kwinana and Albany zones.

Extending the streak of consecutive monthly records to 14 months, almost 205,000 tonnes were outturned to the domestic market in May. This is an impressive achievement for the CBH Domestic Logistics team and the Operations teams working at domestic outloading sites, as well as the road transporters involved.

These road, rail and shipping achievements have only been made possible by our team and contractors, who have demonstrated commitment and persistence in helping us move these tonnes to customer, safely and efficiently.
