Leeuwin Sail Scholarships NOW OPEN
In partnership with the CBH Group, Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation has opened applications for sponsored places for a week-long sail training adventure on board STS Leeuwin II during 2022.
Applicants must be between 14-25 years and live in one of the following zones in which CBH operates:
- Midwest
- Central Wheatbelt
- Albany
- Esperance
- Kwinana
The CBH Group is awarding six sponsored place of $2,050. If you are successful in receiving sponsorship, you will need to pay the balance of the fare $300.
Voyages are a great way to get active, try something different, meet new friends and develop skills for your future.
Prepare to be challenged and discover your strengths and talents while building your self-confidence. Take on personal responsibility and work as part of a group. We’ll help you reach your personal best and develop your leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
On a voyage, you’ll spend a week at sea helping run a working ship, which includes:
- setting and furling the sails
- climbing the masts – the main mast is 33m high!
- standing watch through the night with your watch group.
In 2019, Dowerin student Fraser Hagboom completed his scholarship voyage from Fremantle to Geraldton.
“The best part of the voyage was that I got to challenge myself. As a kid off a farm I’ve never had much to do with the ocean. I learnt a lot about how a sailing ship works and how to maintain it. I think the voyage has helped me to gain confidence in myself and to be able to work with people I have never seen before” said Fraser.
Fraser’s Mother, Amanda said ‘The opportunity really enabled Fraser to get out of comfort zone, push himself and build on his leadership skills. He really enjoyed the whole experience”.
