Cunderdin upgrade underway to boost capacity and efficiency
Located on the standard gauge rail line in the Kwinana South Zone, Cunderdin is a strategically important site within the network. The expansion will help the site better manage increasing grain volumes from the surrounding catchment and respond to larger, faster harvest periods.
What’s included in the upgrade
The project will expand and enhance the Cunderdin site and includes:
- Two new permanent open bulkhead storage facilities, increasing capacity by around 70,000 tonnes
- New fixed inloading infrastructure, including an auger pit, conveyor loading system and stackers
- Installation of new power and communications infrastructure to support expanded operationsImprovements to: internal roads, access and traffic flow; drainage and stormwater systems; safety and site infrastructure; and pavement and hardstand upgrades.
Supporting growers and strengthening the network
CBH Head of Network Planning Nelson Aylmore said the investment ensures the network continues to keep pace with growing production across the region.
“At Cunderdin, we’re investing to increase capacity and improve the efficiency of our operations, so we can better support growers during peak harvest,” Mr Aylmore said.
Increased permanent storage capacity will reduce reliance on temporary infrastructure and improve operational consistency, while new in-loading infrastructure will support faster receival rates at peak periods.
Upgrades to traffic flow, access and site layout will enhance safety, reduce congestion and improve overall efficiency, providing greater flexibility as harvest activity continues to grow.
“This investment is part of CBH’s Path to 2033 Strategy, ensuring our network is well positioned to handle larger crops and deliver a more efficient and reliable supply chain into the future,” Mr Aylmore said.
Together, these upgrades will strengthen grower service outcomes and enable Cunderdin to play a key role in the ongoing performance of the Kwinana South network.
