2023 Leeuwin Scholarship applications open
Applications are open for six CBH sponsored places on a week-long sailing adventure with Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation on board STS Leeuwin II next year.
In partnership with the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation, the scholarships aim to support students from grain growing areas to build self-confidence and develop their leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
On the voyage participants will spend a week at sea, helping run a working ship through:
- Climbing the 33-metre main mast
- Navigating the ship
- Standing watch while sailing at night
- Setting and furling sails
The voyage provides the opportunity for young people to step out of their comfort zone, discover their strengths and work as part of a team.
Applicants must be between 14-25 years old and live in one of the following zones in which CBH operates:
- Central Wheatbelt
There are six sponsored places available valued at $2,050 with the remaining balance of $300 paid by the participant.
2022 participant Tyler Coats from Esperance completed the Fremantle to Busselton voyage aboard the STS Leeuwin II.
Tyler explained the experience as challenging but rewarding – she experienced seasickness for part of the voyage.
“If you have the correct mindset things will come a lot easier,” Tyler said.
The Captain awarded Tyler with a Letter of Encouragement for her perseverance.
Applications are open from 1 November to 30 November 2022.
