Lake Grace Driver Reviver gets new life through CBH grant
CBH has announced the successful recipients of its latest Grass Roots Grants round, with funding awarded to a diverse range of community-led projects across regional Western Australia.
The February round of the CBH Grass Roots Grants, supported 33 initiatives that strengthen regional communities through local programs, events, facilities and services to the value of $300,000.
Lake Grace Roadwise was one of this round’s successful recipients, receiving funding to revitalise its long-running Driver Reviver van — a volunteer-run roadside stop offering tea, coffee and biscuits and encouraging drivers to take a 15-minute break — with a new mural by local artist Andrew Frazer.
Suzanne Reeves, Manager, Lake Grace Community Resource Centre said that Lake Grace Roadwise is all about improving road safety at a local level.
"Our Driver Reviver has been supporting travellers for 20 years, and with a new permanent location, we’re hoping to connect with even more motorists during busy holiday periods.
We’re excited to have received support through the CBH Grass Roots Grants program to bring the van to life with a mural by artist Andrew Frazer, which beautifully reflects both our message and our community. If we can help prevent even one accident, then it’s worth it,” said Suzanne.
CBH Area 14 (Acting) Manager Rachelle Horley said the Lake Grace Roadwise played a key role in the local community supporting road safety initiatives.
“The Lake Grace Roadwise volunteers have done a fantastic job supporting road safety in the local community over many years, and it’s great to see the Driver Reviver getting a new lease on life. It’s a simple idea, but one that can have a real impact — especially during busy holiday periods. We’re proud to support projects like this that are driven by local people and make a genuine difference,” said Rachelle
The next Grass Roots Grants round will open on 1 August. For more information, visit: https://www.cbh.com.au/community/grass-roots-community-grants
