CBH Fertiliser marks 10 years of driving grower value from ground up

22/8/2025

CBH Group is celebrating 10 years since it entered the Western Australian fertiliser market with a commitment to putting downward pressure on market prices and saving growers money on their largest input cost.

CBH Fertiliser began operating in 2015, delivering value to growers through high-quality products at competitive rates, and putting millions of dollars back into their pockets in the process.

CBH Group’s Head of Fertiliser, David Pritchard, said the benefits for WA growers had been substantial.

“CBH is a proud co-operative, owned and controlled by WA grain growing businesses since 1933, and for the past 10 years WA grain growers have seen fertiliser prices that better reflect values seen in the international market as well as greater transparency in the marketplace,” Mr Pritchard said.

“As we celebrate our 10-year milestone, our product outloads have been consistently higher each month than in our entire first year of operations.”

In the early years, CBH Fertiliser operated from leased collection points in Kwinana and Geraldton offering a conservative range of granular fertiliser products, and as demand increased so has the range of products, storage and outturn capacity at CBH’s fertiliser sheds.

CBH Group opened the Esperance fertiliser shed in May 2021, and expanded the facility in Kwinana, introducing liquid fertiliser facilities.

“In early 2023, the newly inaugurated Kwinana Fertiliser Terminal marked a significant milestone with the first vessel carrying Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN), and notably the first non-grain vessel, berthed and unloaded at the Kwinana Grain Terminal jetty soon after,” Mr Pritchard said.

“Berthing our UAN fertiliser vessels at the Kwinana Grain Terminal leverages our people, existing network and infrastructure which provides increased discharging flexibility instead of the adjacent Fremantle Ports Kwinana Bulk Jetty helping us deliver a competitively priced product.”

CBH’s fertiliser business is part of CBH Group’s Path to 2033 Strategy and aims to:

  • Provide growers with access to competitively priced bulk fertiliser
  • Encourage a domestic fertiliser market with improved price transparency
  • Continue building relationships with suppliers and industry experts to ensure access to fertilisers for WA growing conditions.
