WA artist Brenton See to paint CBH Group's Newdegate silos

Western Australian artist Brenton See has been selected to paint the fifth mural in FORM and CBH Group's PUBLIC Silo Trail at Newdegate this May.

Over the past three years the PUBLIC Silo Trail has put country towns on the cultural map, bringing world-class murals to CBH Group grain silos, public walls and Western Power transformer boxes across the state, with silo artwork so far from Phlegm, HENSE, Amok Island, Kyle Hughes-Odgers and Yok & Sheryo.

See, a muralist and canvas artist with a graphic design background, is characterised in his work by his bright colour palette, geometric shapes and penchant for painting realistic animals and wildlife.

FORM’s Executive Director Lynda Dorrington said feedback from the community across the course of the project had revealed a preference for the mural to be created in the realistic style.

"Brenton See's work is unique and tends to be highly specific to its location," Ms Dorrington said. "He also works in an innovative, realist style using animals and objects to express himself and the stories he wants share about the unique community and environment he is painting in." 

As with every mural in the PUBLIC Silo Trail, the design for the Newdegate silo mural will remain under wraps until the mural itself is complete. Trail goers are invited to come and watch the artwork unfold in Newdegate.

"Guessing, wondering and watching the mural take form lends a magic to the experience," Ms Dorrington said.

"We're excited to be bringing the PUBLIC Silo Trail to Newdegate to celebrate the town's unique character and highly motivated community- both through the artwork and through our social documentary project Homegrown Stories."

As part of the PUBLIC Silo Trail, Homegrown Stories will continue to capturing the evocative personal narratives and remarkable histories of the men and women growers, regional workers and local community champions in each of the towns on the trail. These stories will be presented on completion of the trail, shining a light on the people who make these regional towns what they are.

Brenton See will begin painting the Newdegate silos on Tuesday, 29th May. The mural is expected to take around two weeks to complete. 

This iteration of the PUBLIC Silo Trail is a partnership between FORM and CBH Group and is supported by a grant from the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund and Lotterywest. This project is also supported through the Newdegate Machinery Field Days and the Newdegate Community Cropping Group.
