2024-25 CBH Flexi-starter Pool finalised

6/8/2025

Final payments were made on 30 July 2025 for the 2024/25 CBH Flexi-starter Pool for wheat, barley and canola.

Recipient Created Tax Invoices (RCTIs) and loan statements are now available on LoadNet.

Barley – 2024/25 Flexi-starter Pool (Kwinana Zone)

  • MAX1: Final equity is $365.35/tonne
  • BFD1: Final equity is $330.35/tonne

These results are $18.30 above and $1.36 below the average cash price, respectively.

It was a tough season for marketing barley. A strong Aussie dollar before harvest and a bigger-than-expected WA crop made things challenging. Margins were tight due to strong competition and low grower liquidity. On the bright side, international demand stayed strong, and prices picked up after harvest. The team also secured some solid malt sales early on, before grade spreads narrowed.

Canola – 2024/25 Flexi-starter Pool (Kwinana Zone)

  • CAN1: Final equity is $833.11/tonne
  • CAG1: Final equity is $733.11/tonne (plus oil quality payments)

These results are $16.98 and $8.54 above the average cash price, respectively.

The season was marked by volatile futures (thanks to geopolitical tensions), tight margins, and strong competition for non-GM canola. Despite the challenges, the team took advantage of market volatility and strong international demand around harvest to lock in favourable prices.

Wheat – 2024/25 Flexi-starter Pool (Kwinana Zone)

  • APW1: Final equity is $372.92/tonne
  • AWW1: Final equity is $347.41/tonne

That’s $0.62 and $4.82 above the average cash price, respectively.

Marketing wheat this season was tough, with low or even negative trading margins. Minimal carry-out from the previous season and low grower liquidity during harvest pushed up cash prices as marketers scrambled to fill early shipments. Post-harvest liquidity stayed low, keeping margins tight. Demand remained steady, and the team was able to secure some good feed wheat spreads as milling and feed grade prices converged.

Further information has been emailed to pool participants and full results are available in the Pool Calculator (note: wheat quality payments not included).
