Wheat Pool changes to improve price transparency, simplify nominations
Wheat quality rewards will be removed from the 2025/26 CBH Flexi-starter, 2025/26 Harvest and future Pools.
Will final pool returns be affected?
No, the total price paid out by the Pools will not change. The average grower would usually receive an itemised quality payment but will now see a higher Estimated Pool Return (EPR).
What were wheat quality rewards?
Wheat quality rewards were a legacy feature in our Pool history.
They were initially designed to attract high quality wheat into the pool which would in turn be exported for premium values.
The quality rewards table would pay a higher price per tonne for growers who delivered higher protein wheat with low screenings and low moisture for a particular grade.
Conversely, for a grower delivering lower protein with high screenings and moisture, a lower price would be paid for the same grade.
Why the change?
The change will improve price transparency and simplify the nomination process for growers.
As Pool tonnes are sold based on the zone weighted average, this change will better reflect the value the pool can achieve and return to growers.
Over the years, the introduction of additional wheat grades and Quality Optimisation (QO) has meant growers are paid for their individual grain quality.
These grades are aligned with the international customer demand for WA wheat.
